established in 1984 – the history of sba

It was a year to remember, immortalized in George Orwell’s famous novel Nineteen Eighty-Four, and to us at SBA it’s a year we’re proud to shout about for a different reason. For that’s when two industry professionals, Howard Sandrove and Stephen Brahams, formed the partnership of Sandrove Brahams, recognising the need for a professional management agency to service their ever-expanding London clients.

Howard came from a strong retail agency background, having trained at Hillier Parker May & Rowden he subsequently joined Michael Testler & Co as a specialist in out-of-town retail and investments.

Stephen’s background was in the hotel and leisure industry. His partnership with Howard in 1984 allowed him to concentrate on pure property management whilst retaining his leisure industry interests and his investment clients.


And so the Partnership of Sandrove Brahams was formed, and quickly expanded to become a full service property management team, with the recruitment of Property Manager Simon Hildebrand in 1989 and later in 1996, accounts specialist Deepak Sahota and then Chartered Surveyor Tim Darwall-Smith in 1998; each one bringing expertise and experience to the team.


In 2003, the partnership incorporated to form Sandrove Brahams & Associates Limited, a change in direction which cemented the bond between the five principal partners and allowed the company to focus on its core strength of residential and mixed use property management, whilst retaining strong links to its investment and development clients.

Expansion has since continued with the acquisition of the management portfolio of Grant Stanley Chartered Surveyors in 2004, a relationship that continues to this day. In 2019 our highly experienced Associate Director, Yassir Awan, joined the board of Directors and in 2021 the merger with Paul Samuel Associates, headed by the hugely experienced Paul Rubenstein MBE IRRV, has added further weight to the team.


A new world calls for new ideas and although Stephen and Howard now take a back seat in our day to day activities, the established team continues to work hard to maintain their original values of a personal and professional service. SBA is the culmination of everything we’ve worked towards over the years, and we’re proud to be carrying on these traditions today.
